When my grandson moved to Germany to work, I thought I’d like to be able to speak some German when I visited him and keep my brain active. From my very first lesson, I was on a happy cloud as Jenny was so patient and encouraging and I couldn’t wait for the next week’s lesson. Six months later, I am told my accent is very good (Jenny is a stickler) and I have surprised myself with how far I have come. Phil was predominantly engaged as a GCSE German tutor for my daughter. She was finding German a real struggle but was determined to take the higher paper in her GCSEs.
For the past year, Phil has been tutoring her on a weekly basis for an hour. The fact that he is a teacher himself is a bonus – he has tailored every session to suit her (and her dyslexia), starting with the very basics and building up her language skills as well as her confidence. Phil is professional, personable and very flexible when it comes to holidays and extra pre-exam sessions. I was so impressed with how he managed to engage my daughter in her German that I added an extra half hour session to tutor my son in Year 9 French. Phil not only reinforced the French school work, he introduced new vocabulary to my son’s conversational French.
Both kids have really enjoyed working with Phil and both feel that they have really benefited from his tutoring. After arguing her case, not to be moved to a lower set in German, Caitlin achieved a Grade 6 in her GCSE German – a fabulous result!
